It is nice to have a camera record the movement. I used to try to watch the hands of my wristwatch move five minutes before quartz came along and was never successful. Maybe I will try with camera one of these days.

This is just stupendous, Jake. Looks like a giant 'ferris wheel' in the sky. What I'd like to know is what YOU do for 3 hrs. and 25 minutes while the timer is clicking away. :)) I've waited patiently for a shot before, but never quite that long. lol! So glad you did though. Congrats on this unique and 'heavenly' image.

I took this image of Chichester Cathedral on the night of 26/27th of January 2012, between midnight , and 0330. It comprises of 345 thirty second exposures at f3.5, and ISO 100, and then stacked them all using startrail software. Unfortunately as the temperature dropped to below zero some evidence of freezing on the lens appears, even though at one stage I was wiping the lens between each exposure, it was still gathering a frost. I must find a way to prevent this from happening, so there you have it Helen, I was not totally idle during the time, but boy was it cold? Thank you all for the kind comments.

I had no idea that there were 345 individual exposures involved. I thought you just set the timer and let it go. Having to clean the lens after each exposure to boot and then entering all 365 images into the Startrail software....makes me appreciate this photo even more, now knowing the work that you put into getting to this beautiful finished product. Thanks for the explanation and the education. :)

A long lens hood will help with the condensation/frost issue. You can make one out of stiff paper. You could also try those small hand warmer packetts to keep the lens warm.
